How Botox Works
Botox is a cosmetic treatment that interrupts the nerve signals that tell the facial muscles responsible for fine lines and wrinkles to contract. When we apply botox to those muscles, they relax, leading to a smoother appearance. Botox starts working immediately after injection, and has a build-up effect. Over the course of multiple applications, the facial muscles start to relax consistently, resulting in a more youthful look year-round.
Benefits of Botox
There’s a reason botox treatments are the most commonly used facial aesthetic product —this naturally-derived injectable is proven effective at preventing and softening wrinkles, fine lines, crow’s feet, blemishes, muscle spasms, and more.
At Functional Wellness & Aesthetics, we can use botox to reduce or eliminate:

Botox FAQs
The benefits of botox generally last for 3–6 months, with most patients seeing the best results after the second and third injections. Botox works best over several appointments, creating a build-up effect that trains facial muscles to relax on their own over time. With multiple treatments, you set yourself up for even longer-lasting results.
Despite the intimidating sound of the active ingredient in botox—botulinum toxin—it is generally harmless and safe for cosmetic use when applied by a professional hand. When used in the most effective doses and placements, botox not only relaxes the facial muscles, but may also promote the production of collagen and elastin, two proteins that encourage tight, firm, and supple skin. At Functional Wellness & Aesthetics, Rick Meyers, FNP-BC is highly trained to provide the best possible botox treatment, and is here to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
Most patients describe the sensation of receiving botox as a slight pinch, much the same as any other routine injection. Beyond this minimal discomfort, botox appointments are designed to be relaxing and quick, performed in a smaller timespan than your lunch break. If pain is a concern, talk to our expert team about how we can make you more comfortable.
Botox treatment might cause mild redness and moderate swelling or bruising around the injection site. It will go away on its own.
It usually takes between 3 and 5 days for effects to see results on the treated area, although the full impact may take up to a week.
The Botox Treatment Process
Injections of Botulinum Toxin, also called Botox, temporarily smooth facial wrinkles so that you appear younger. Botox injections are neurotoxins that work by weakening specific muscles, so they have less effect on creating wrinkles.
Botox Cosmetic results will change and vary from patient to patient, but it usually lasts for 3 to 6 months. It is likely that if you stop getting injections, your wrinkles will slowly return to their appearance before treatment.
Botox injection for facial wrinkles requires several injections, usually around the face – between the eyebrows, on the outside edges of the eyes, and around the crow’s feet. Our Specialists will analyze your skin and the dosage used will depend on your age, severity of wrinkles, medical conditions, and the reason for the injection, such as facial lines or excessive sweating.
