Our editorial process

Every article on this site is written and medically reviewed by Rick Meyers, FNP-BC, founder of Functional Wellness & Aesthetics in Salem, Oregon.

Each piece is checked for clinical accuracy, linked to recognized sources such as the FDA, the New England Journal of Medicine, the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and updated as the evidence and the regulations change. The goal is simple. Patients should have information they can trust when making decisions about their health and their appearance.

Who writes the content?

Rick does. He writes and reviews the articles himself, drawing on nearly 30 years of medical experience and the questions patients in Salem ask him in consultations every week. Each article carries his name, a link to his profile and the date it was last updated.

How is it checked for accuracy?

Before an article is published, it is read again against three questions. Is it clinically correct? Is it clear? Is it useful to the person reading it? Where a figure or recommendation comes from a regulator, a professional body or a clinical trial, the article links directly to that source so readers can check it for themselves. If a claim can’t be supported, it doesn’t go on the page.

How often is it updated?

Medicine changes, and so do the rules around it, as the 2025 changes to compounded semaglutide and the 2026 peptide reclassification showed. Articles are revisited when research, FDA guidance or clinical practice shifts, and every post shows the date it was last updated so readers can see how current it is.

Honest before promotional

A lot of health content online exists mainly to sell something. Our articles say when a treatment isn’t worth it, when the evidence is thin, and when a product sold online is unregulated or unsafe. Prices are discussed as ranges and published averages rather than promises, because the right plan depends on an assessment. The articles are for general education and are not a substitute for a consultation with a licensed provider.
